Welcome to the Fischer Lab!
Est. 2026
We are a research group in the Weill Institute of Cellular and Molecular Biology and the Department of Molecular Biology and Genetics at Cornell University studying fundamental organelle biology in cellular health and disease. Our main interest is understanding the molecular mechanisms of organelle quality control – or how cells sense and resolve damage to maintain the integrity of organelles. As failure of organelle quality control is linked to neurodegenerative disorders with persistent inflammation, we are particularly focused on how maintenance of organelle integrity shapes cellular immunity and survival.
By combining advanced imaging, molecular tools, and biochemistry in cellular and disease models, we aim to discover new immune-related pathways of organelle quality control important for human health. In doing so, our work will advance our fundamental understanding of organelle biology and lay the foundation for drug discovery that will redefine how we treat neurodegenerative disorders.
